Every question counts

Choosing the right preschool is a big decision. Here are honest answers to the questions families ask us most.

FAQ at Hess Preschool

Our teacher-to-child ratios are carefully designed to support each age group’s developmental needs. In our Playgroup, we maintain a ratio of 1 teacher for every 5 children, while Nursery 1 has a 1:7 ratio and Nursery 2 has a 1:10 ratio. As children grow, our Kindergarten 1 and Kindergarten 2 classes have ratios of 1:11 and 1:12, respectively, ensuring a supportive environment at every stage of your child’s learning journey.

We offer a 10% sibling discount to families with two or more children enrolled at Hess Preschool. This discount is applied monthly to the tuition of the older child or the child with the lower monthly fee.

At Hess Preschool, we use the Taidii App to keep parents informed and engaged.

Real-Time Updates: Parents receive notifications about their child’s arrival and departure, outings, nappy changes, sleep times, meals, and any accidents. In the case of an accident, we will call you immediately for transparency and update the app accordingly.

Weekly Summaries: Child-specific updates are shared weekly, summarising how the week went and outlining the activities your child participated in.

Parent-Teacher Meetings: We conduct meetings twice a year to discuss your child’s development, milestones achieved, and the next steps for their learning journey.

Hess Preschool offers a balanced programme that supports both exploration and academic readiness. With bilingual immersion, hands-on learning, and a low teacher-child ratio, children receive the focused guidance they need to grow at each stage. We also offer a 6-month intensive bridging programme for children entering primary one.

Children engage with English and Chinese daily through stories, conversations, phonics, and role-play. This consistent exposure strengthens listening, speaking, and early reading skills, helping children communicate confidently and build strong foundations in both languages.

Our Playgroup is designed for toddlers aged 18 to 30 months who are ready for early social interaction, structured routines, and guided exploration.

Toddlers engage with English and Chinese daily through songs, stories, simple conversations, and hands-on activities that strengthen listening, imitation, and early vocabulary.

Our Playgroup combines bilingual exposure, responsive teaching, small class ratios, and a curriculum that supports steady developmental progress across social, physical, and communication skills.

Educators observe each child closely, adjust activities to match developmental readiness, and offer personalised support so toddlers can participate confidently.

A balanced routine of play, early language experiences, activities, and comforting transitions that help toddlers feel secure while building foundational skills.

Nursery 1 is for children in Singapore who turn 3 years old in the calendar year.

Our Pre-Nursery, also referred to as Playgroup, is for children ages 18-30 months and focuses primarily on early social development, sensory exploration, and strengthening fine and gross motor skills. At this stage, children are still adapting to group settings, learning to follow simple routines, and developing independence through play-based experiences.

Nursery 1, on the other hand, is for children turning 3 years old in the calendar year and introduces more structured, purposeful activities that lay the foundation for academic readiness. Children engage in hands-on experiences that build early literacy, numeracy, bilingual communication, and problem-solving skills, all while continuing to learn through play.

Yes. Our Nursery 1 curriculum includes daily English and Mandarin exposure, where children learn through stories, conversations, songs, and hands-on inquiry in both languages.

Parents can contact the school, book a tour, or visit our admissions page to register for our N1 programme. Early enrolment is recommended due to limited class sizes.

Generally, Kindergarten 1 in Singapore is for children who are turning five years old in the year they attend. The Ministry of Education (MOE) framework defines the K1 year as the first of two years of kindergarten education, immediately preceding the K2 year. It’s also a critical period focused on building the academic and social foundations necessary for the successful transition to Primary 1.

Our comprehensive Kindergarten 1 curriculum nurtures every aspect of your child’s development. Through thematic-based learning enriched with projects, show and tell presentations, and STEAM education, we create meaningful learning experiences. Children master literacy systematically through Jolly Phonics while building mathematical understanding via the Concrete-Pictorial-Abstract (CPA) approach, all within an integrated bilingual environment. This academic rigour is balanced with social-emotional development, as children cultivate independence, leadership capabilities, and essential social skills for working and playing together through collaborative thematic project work.

At Hess Preschool, we balance rigorous academic preparation with nurturing, project-based learning. Our integrated Chinese-English bilingual curriculum builds primary school readiness alongside curiosity and confidence.

What’s more, our intentionally low teacher-child ratio ensures each child receives ample individual attention and support. Our K1 programme works closely with parents through regular communication to address any learning gaps and support each child’s development.
